My 8,000-step journey

Discover the inspiration behind my daily movement goal, what I've learned, and the impact it's had on my health behavior change project.

Why 8,000 steps?

After dedicating my life to field hockey, and with that chapter now closed, I found myself needing a new way to stay active. Choosing 8,000 steps a day was a natural decision to ensure I continued to move my body and maintain a healthy lifestyle. It served as a measurable target to keep me accountable.

Beyond the count: Uncovering habits

This goal was more than just hitting a number. it was a deep dive into my personal habits and motivation. I wanted to understand my natural activity levels on less active days and explore how I could overcome the struggle of wanting to do nothing and have "lazy days". It became an experiment to see if consistent movement would lead to feeling healthier and more energized.

Small steps, big impact

My hope is that my journey inspires you to see that significant change doesn't always require grand gestures. Simple actions, like getting up and walking, can make a profound difference. Or finding an activity you enjoy. For me that's Pickle ball!  It's also a reminder that setbacks are part of the process, it's okay not to hit your goal every single day. The important thing is to keep moving forward.

"It doesn't take a whole lot to get moving and be active. Even something simple like getting up and walking can make a difference."
